The Old Salzburg Restaurant in Radium Hot Springs, BC Canada was using a chalk board displaying hand written daily specials. Because of a sometimes obstructed location many guests didn't see the special and the wait staff had to repeat the details numerous times throughout an evening. The second challenge was that many of the delicious dishes were Austrian cuisine unknown to many guests. Again, wait staff had try to explain details of these dishes.
The solution provided by Flook Digital Media was to place a 50" HDTV into a window beside the restaurant entrance facing outside. Guests arriving at the restaurant were able to see the bright display showing rotating images of the Austrian dishes served at the fine dining establishment as well as the daily special still keeping the original chalk board look.
An additional feature was to display a changeable text feed scrolling at the bottom of the screen, one evening displaying birthday wishes to a very surprised guest arriving at the restaurant celebrating his birthday.
Rotating images showing Austrian dishes are almost entirely eliminating the need for wait staff explaining details of this European cuisine. Highly visible daily specials are updated within minutes by the chef using his smartphone. Changeable scrolling text can be used to display important messages to guests, which also can have it's "fun factor".
"The new digital sign is a great way to showcase our Austrian dishes and our chef now can update daily specials displayed on the sign within minutes using his smartphone." Franz Schwabl
